Emissions from building
Consider the appropriate use of refrigerants and minimise their use
- plant that uses non-ozone depleting refrigerants, e.g., HFCs, hydrocarbons (HCs), ammonia, alternative refrigeration cycles (absorption) or alternative technologies (desiccant cooling) (3 - page 1)
- generous access for maintenance of refrigeration plant to allow for ease of leak checking and the recovery of refrigerant and compressor lubricant (3 - page 2)
- provision in refrigeration systems for the collection of refrigerant in a receiver or other vessel to facilitate maintenance without refrigerant loss (3 - page 2)
- clients to engage competent contractors using personnel holding current Refrigerant Handling Certificates (3 - page 2)
- no specification of insulation material foamed with CFCs or HCFCs (1 - credit P4)
- reduce the quantity of refrigerant contained in the plant by avoiding the use of large liquid receivers, by minimising the length of refrigerant pipe runs and by specifying plate heat exchangers (3 - page 2)
- plant and pipe vibration minimised to reduce pipe stress failures (4 - section DS1)
- high standard of jointing and joint testing of refrigerant pipework (4 - section DS1)
- leak detection alarms for centralised indoor plant and distributed refrigerant systems in accordance with BS4434 (3 - page 2)
- recover and reclaim, recycle or destroy all of the refrigerant in refurbished or decommissioned plant (3 - page 2)
Select low pollutant plant
- boilers with low NOx emissions (less than 40mg/kWh) (1 - credit P6, 5 - section 3, 2 - credit Pol 2)
Fire Systems
- fire protection systems which do not include halons (4 - section DS6)
