Flooding
Consider local and surrounding drainage infrastructure
- design storm or rain water drainage systems or schemes to be capable of accommodating new development (2 - page 4)
- incorporate constructional or technological measures that provide protection in the form of a barrier or diversionary solution to flood waters (2 - page 4)
Liaise with specialists responsible for assessing and advising on site flood risk
- see CIBSE Guide L: Sustainability - Flood risk (1 - section 03/04/07, 1 - section 03/04/07)
Consider the use of resilient forms of construction to reduce the level of damage from flooding, especially in areas of frequent flooding.
- electrical and gas services above the anticipated flood height, so that meters, electrical points and boiler ignition systems do not need to be replaced after a flood (2 - page 5)
- sewage backflow devices to prevent extensive contamination in areas that are not immediately inundated (2 - page 5)
